How Bohemian Chick Designs Came to Be

Check out my store and see what I've made!
I’ve always been sort of an entrepreneur.
When I was 12 years old, I started selling cards in my neighborhood to get a camera for myself.
When my first daughter was born, I started a cake business. I did this for 10 years, but stopped when we moved to TX from NY.
I backpacked overseas a few short years later and saw how resourceful the poorer regions were by re-using items. Small scraps of wood became colorful garden stakes and label holders. Coconut shells became bowls. Milk jugs became colorful lanterns. I loved this concept and wanted to continue the re-use, recycle, repurpose concept.
The answer came to me in August of 2015 while I was driving my children to school. On the way there, I saw a large pile of wood at the end of someone’s driveway. Various types of wood. Floorboards, fence panels, pallet wood, etc, etc. All of a sudden, I had an idea!!! Wooden signs!! An excitement spread through me. I was itching to be creative in some sort.
I hurriedly dropped off my children at school, and swung back around to the house. I went up to the door and asked if I could take their pile of wood. They looked shocked, but said “Sure!”. I took every piece they had and filled up the entire back of my Honda Pilot SUV. I then went home and placed all the wood in my garage and started working on designs.
First, I needed a business name. Something that fit me.
Bohemian Chick Designs was the winner. This summer, we will celebrate eight years. We have done countless markets and have also added jewelry, refinished furniture, and a few other items to our line.
We are happy to have you here. 💜
